SUKKUR / LARKANA: A couple lost their four children — three daughters and a son — in an incident of drowning in Khairpur district while two young sisters and their cousin drowned in Larkana district on Monday.
In Khairpur, the four siblings — Konj, 12, Paras, 10, Dodi, 8, and their brother, Siraj, 5, drowned in the Lalan Wah (irrigation channel) passing through the Gabar Maitlo village near Ahmedpur.
Their shocked father, Irshad Maitlo, told local reporters that his children were playing in the canal along with other children. When they did not return after many hours, he and other residents of the village mounted a search for them. He said finally their bodies were found floating in the canal.
He said they took the bodies to his home, a pall of gloom fell on the entire village as he, his family and relatives started crying, beating chest and mourning.
The other incident occurred in the Bakrani taluka of Larkana district, where two sisters — Dua, 7, and Zohra, 6, daughters of Ali Gohar Tunio, and their cousin, Tunajjina, 6, daughter of Mohammad Iqbal Tunio, drowned in a pond in Abdul Samad Tunio village near Khair Mohammad Areja town.
The family members took out the girls in a critical condition and took them to the Chandka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead during emergency treatment.
