QUETTA: Six labourers working for a private gas company were abducted at gunpoint by unidentified armed men from the Zarghoon Ghar area of Harnai district on Tuesday, police said.

A senior police officer, confirming the incident, said a group of heavily armed men entered the area, cordoned off the site and took the six workers into custody at gunpoint.

“The armed men took the workers with them to an unknown location,” the officer said, adding that the incident occurred in the Shaban area of Shahrag tehsil in Harnai district. The assailants arrived at the site on motorcycles and in a vehicle.

Security forces, including personnel of the FC, rushed to the area soon after receiving information about the incident and launched a search operation in the surrounding mountainous terrain to trace the abducted workers.

Police said all six labourers were local residents belonging to the Zarghoon Ghar area of Shaban tehsil in Harnai district.

The abducted workers, who belong to the Dummar tribe, were identified as Jalat Khan, Muhammad Hashim, Kamal Khan, Jahangir Khan, Muhammad Azim and Roze Khan.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. No group had claimed responsibility for the abduction until the filing of this report.
