HYDERABAD: The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) has said that the Sindh High Court’s Larkana bench has ruled that the regular appointment of Rizwan Ahmed as commission’s chairperson “is a distinct and lawful source of title to office”.

Reacting to a news headlined “Appointment of Sindh Public Service Commission chairman declared unlawful” published in Dawn on June 30, the SPSC dispelled an impression that the high court had declared the appointment of the regular chairman unlawful.

The Sindh government had appointed Mr Ahmed as “acting” chairman of the SPSC. The move was challenged in court and the SHC had declared his appointment as acting chairman as unlawful and ruled that neither the Constitution nor the SPSC Act 2022 “recognise any concept of ‘acting chairperson’. However, the bench also ruled that the “regular appointment of Mr Rizwan Ahmed as chairperson, SPSC vide notification dated 12-06-2026, followed by oath on 13-06-2026, is a distinct and lawful source of title to office, and his present incumbency is to be treated accordingly”.
