KARACHI: The first Charge d’Affaires of the Central Peoples Republic of China, Cheng Wei-Chih, arrived in Karachi yesterday [June 28] from Peking via New Delhi. He told the Press correspondents at the Karachi airport that he would “personally make every effort” to advance friendly co-operation between the peoples of China and Pakistan. The Chinese Charge d’Affaires was accompanied by his Secretary and three other functionaries of the Legation.

… Cheng Wei-Chib said that it was not yet certain as to when the Chinese Ambassador would arrive in Karachi. He was received at the airport by officials of the Soviet Embassy in Karachi, the Hungarian and Czechoslovakian Trade Commissioners, and the Ministers of Czechoslovakia in Karachi.

… [He] said: “I am very glad to be able to meet you here and to express the concern and respect of the Chinese people for the peace-loving people of Pakistan.”
