LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem has suspended Civil Lines Operations DSP Khurram Shahzad Cheema from service, directing him to report to the Central Police Office till further order.

Punjab Police spokesperson says the DSP has been suspended for “misuse of authority and corruption”, while Headquarters DIG Dr Muhammad Abid Khan has issued the formal suspension notification in this regard.

He says that the IGP has also ordered a departmental inquiry against Cheema. Appropriate disciplinary action will be determined in accordance with the rules and regulations, in the light of the inquiry report.

Mr Kareem said corruption, misuse of office and abuse of authority will not be tolerated in Punjab Police under any circumstances.

He emphasised that a strict and impartial accountability process against officers and personnel found guilty of violating the code of conduct will continue to ensure greater transparency, uphold the rule of law, and further strengthen public confidence in the police department.
