NOBODY WINS IN A WAR

NOBODY WINS IN A WAR: In the recent war involving Iran, the United States and Israel, the only winner was the Western armament industry. Potentially, some construction contractors will also make money rebuilding infrastructure destroyed by reckless bombing. Thousands of human lives were lost. Vital oil and gas supply chains were disrupted globally. Hate blinds those gripped by hatred. Politics of hate must come to an end. It is time sanity should have a fair chance to prevail and the world have eternal peace.

MISPLACED CHECKPOINTS: The authorities have established checkpoints on the route leading to the main campus of Hamdard University in Karachi. This results in serious traffic jams almost on a daily basis, adding to the woes of students and faculty travelling to and from the university. While security checks are valid, they should not be at the cost of public’s grievances. Under the scorching summer heat, people have to suffer twice a day every day. Unfortunately, this situation directly impacts students’ learning capacity and educational out-come. If the government prioritises education, it should relocate these check-points or regulate their timings. What students require is a smooth commute.

CONTAMINATED MELONS: Fruits are considered to be the healthiest foods to consume, but these days one regularly comes across reports of contaminated watermelons being sold in the market. Oftentimes, unhealthy colours and saccharin are artificially injected into watermelons to make them sweet and appealing, posing a serious risk to public health. Such actions reflect the irres-ponsibility of food departments and the apathy of sellers. There is an urgent need to stop food adulteration. To cope with this issue, regular inspections must be conducted, and those involved in this ridiculous activity should be charged with hefty fines. Having clean and safe food is a basic right of every citizen.
