RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police Murree has chalked out a special traffic plan to maintain traffic flow in Murree district on the occasion of 10th Muharram, facilitate citizens and ensure effective security arrangements.

A police spokesman said that, according to the traffic plan, the Rawalpindi-Murree-Kashmir (RMK) Road will remain closed to traffic from 1am until the end of the procession on Friday, June 26, 2026, due to a procession at Tirat.

Similarly, for security and traffic management purposes, diversions will be implemented from Mohra Syedan, Bhamrot Syedan, Ban Bazaar to Sangseri Bazaar on New Murree Road and Kotli Sattian Road, as and when required.

On the 10th of Muharram, no vehicles will be allowed to enter Lalazar Turn, Civil Hospital Murree, Lower Mall, Marhaba Chowk and Imtiaz Shaheed Road from 1am until the end of the procession.

For the convenience of the public, traffic wardens and officers have been deployed at Bansara Gali, Ghora Gali, Tret Bazaar, Salgran and Satra Mile Toll Plaza so that traffic can be effectively diverted to alternative routes.

The City Traffic Police has appealed to citizens of Murree to use the Murree Expressway on a priority basis for travel between Murree, Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the specified hours and to fully follow the instructions of traffic wardens and officers on duty to avoid inconvenience or any untoward situation.

Chief Traffic Officer Murree Munir Ahmed Hashmi said that by obeying traffic rules, citizens should prove themselves responsible and civilized and fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order during Muharram.

In case of any traffic information, complaint or emergency, citizens can contact the traffic helpline 1915 or 051-9269200.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has formulated a special emergency cover plan to provide timely and effective emergency services to citizens on the occasion of Youm-e-Ashura (10th Muharramul Haram), a spokesman said.

Under the plan, Code Red has been imposed on Youm-e-Ashura and leave of all rescue officers and personnel has been cancelled.

Rescue posts will be established to deal with emergencies during processions, gatherings and other religious events during Muharram, while personnel and resources will be deployed at various locations.

A total of 32 emergency ambulances, 24 fire and rescue vehicles and 100 motorbike emergency services will be deployed to ensure rapid response.

All vehicles will be fully equipped with necessary medical supplies, medicines, firefighting and rescue equipment so that immediate relief can be provided in any emergency situation, the spokesman said.

The District Emergency Officer Rawalpindi said instructions have been issued to all wings, stations and officers of Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi to ensure protection of life and property by performing their duties in the best possible manner.

Special arrangements have been made for continuous monitoring of all deployed resources and prompt response.

Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has appealed to citizens to observe safety precautions during Muharramul Haram, immediately contact helpline 1122 in case of emergency, and fully cooperate with rescue personnel to ensure a peaceful and safe environment.
