ISLAMABAD: The federal government has accepted the resignation of the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) member engineering, Syed Nafasat Raza.

Mr Raza, a retired officer of the Punjab Communication and Works (C&W) Department, joined the CDA on a contract basis in October 2024. During his tenure, the civic agency completed a record number of major development projects, including the Serena Interchange, Murree Road underpass, T-Chowk Flyover, F-8 Interchange and Flyover, Shaheen Chowk Interchange and Gardenia Hub.

His resignation comes at a time when the CDA is planning to launch a number of new development projects. Sources said Mr Raza had tendered his resignation a couple of weeks ago. The federal government approved the resignation and the Ministry of Interior recently issued a notification in this regard.

Meanwhile, sources said there is a possibility that another retired officer of the Punjab C&W Department may be appointed as member infrastructure/building and given the additional charge of member engineering.

“The new member may be assigned the additional responsibilities of member engineering while also overseeing infrastructure and building functions,” a CDA official said.

The official added that the prospective appointee was recently interviewed at the Ministry of Interior and his appointment is expected to be finalised soon.

Recently, a Grade-19 serving officer of the Punjab C&W Department, Haider Ali, was brought to the CDA on deputation and appointed Director Infrastructure.

A senior CDA official confirmed the resignation of the member engineering.

It is pertinent to note that another key position of member planning has also remained vacant in the CDA. Under an interim arrangement, Member Finance Muhammad Umair is additionally looking after the affairs of the planning wing.

Officials said the post of member planning is a technical position and should ideally be filled by a qualified town planner.
