TOBA TEK SINGH: A teenaged salesman was killed in firing by rivals of his employer here on Wednesday in main bazaar of Satiana, Faisalabad.

Police said the attackers opened indiscriminate fire at the cloth shop due to an old enmity with the owner, Waqar. As a result, Muhammad Munib, a class-IX student who worked part-time as a salesman at the shop, sustained a bullet injury to his head and died on the spot.

According to police, the main suspect, Babar, along with six accomplices, fled the scene after the attack. Further investigation is underway.

BUS PROJECT: The construction work on the Metro Bus project being executed under the Punjab Masstransit Authority is progressing rapidly in Faisalabad.

A meeting chaired by Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen reviewed the shifting of utility services from the project route. The commissioner directed officials of PTCL, Sui Gas and Fesco to ensure visible progress in utility relocation by July 15.

She emphasised that no delays would be tolerated and instructed the horticulture agency to use modern machinery for tree transplantation. Trees along Jhang Road are to be uprooted and replanted at suitable locations.

The commissioner also directed Wasa, the Safe City Authority and the Municipal Corporation to immediately relocate sewer lines, security cameras, utility poles, traffic signals and footpaths. The City Traffic Police and Highway Patrol Police were asked to publicise alternative traffic routes, while traffic wardens and patrolling staff were instructed to remain on the ground to guide commuters.

She further directed the Suthra Punjab Agency to relocate the dumping site and ordered the Pera force to remove encroachments along Jhang Road.

SLAUGHTER HOUSE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out a raid on an illegal slaughterhouse in Gojra as part of its crackdown on the sale of unhealthy and substandard meat.

A PFA official said the operation was conducted by a team led by Deputy Director (Operations) Adnan Haider in coordination with officials of the Livestock Department. According to inspection findings and a veterinary report, the recovered meat was declared unfit for human consumption.

During the raid, officials found a sick and semi-conscious pregnant buffalo being slaughtered. A post-mortem examination revealed a dead calf, about five months old, inside the animal’s abdomen.

The PFA team destroyed 445kg unwholesome meat and initiated legal proceedings against the butchers. A case was registered against butcher Waheed Ahmad and two accomplices.
