MOROCCAN military officers have arrived in Israel to join the International Stabilisation Force (ISF), the Saudi Gazette reported on Wednesday, as officials overseeing the territory’s post-war reconstruction prepare to meet in Cyprus next week.
The arrival marks an early operational step toward deploying the ISF, established under the US-backed Board of Peace launched by President Donald Trump in February.
The multinational force is slated to deploy in Gaza during the peace plan’s second phase, which includes a gradual Israeli withdrawal.
Four Moroccan officers arrived at the force’s headquarters in southern Israel on June 18, an anonymous board official told AFP.
They will help develop the force’s structure and provide policing expertise, The Jerusalem Post reported. “Their arrival strengthens the international effort to support the people of Gaza,” the Board of Peace posted on X.
Morocco committed to the force in Feb, publicly becoming the first Arab nation to do so. The stabilisation force is also expected to include 5,000 Indonesian troops, alongside personnel from Kazakhstan, Albania, Kosovo and Greece.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Board and a committee of Palestinian technocrats will meet in Cyprus next Tuesday and Wednesday to advance Gaza’s governance and reconstruction. The gathering serves as an opportunity to “reset” and “recalibrate” strategy following six months of limited progress, The Times of Israel reported, citing Arab and Palestinian diplomats.
