BAHAWALPUR: Police claimed to have arrested on Sunday two of the four suspects, who had allegedly gang-raped and murdered a gypsy beggar woman, a mother of three, and escaped after leaving her body at the Burewala Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital on Saturday night.
As per Burewal Model Town police, the complainant, Kulsoom Bibi, mother of the victim, Junaida, stated in the FIR No 546/26, registered under sections 302, 375-A and 34 of the PPC, that her daughter was living with her after her separation with her husband and they used to beg. She said they both went to the shop of a suspect, Naeem, where Rafiq, Gul Rahim Khan and Chand Bhatti, were also present.
She said that Rafiq offered a job to her daughter as house help which she accepted. She said that Junaida went to her employer’s house on Saturday morning, but did not return till late in the evening.
They had fled away after leaving the victim’s body at THQ hospital
She said that she was going to Naeem’s house to ask him about her daughter, when she (Kulsoom) fell sick and went to the THQ hospital. On reaching the hospital, she came to know that four men had brought Junaida’s body in a car and fled away after leaving it there.
At this, she informed the police, which sent the body for the postmortem examination in thesame hospital.
Kulsoom alleged that the four suspects killed her daughter after gang-rape.
The district police spokesperson says that on the orders of DPO Tasawar Iqbal, two of the suspects -- Naeem and Chand Bhati -- have been arrested, while raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining two suspects.
BOY DIES: A young boy died tragically after he was accidentally ran over by a trailer driven by his own father at Naharwali near Sammsatta, about 15kms from here on Sunday.
According to Rescue 1122, Bahawalpur, Rizwan (18) and his father Ghulam Mustafa, a driver of ten-wheeler trailer, belonging to Jhangiwala near Bahawalpur city, were on their way to Sadiqabad, on the maize-laden vehicle.
During the night time, both father and son broke the journey to take rest and fell asleep on the roof of the trailer. After sunrise on Sunday, Rizwan came down and fell asleep under the shade of the trailer.
When Ghulam Mustafa woke up, unaware of the fact that his son was asleep under the trailer, he stated the vehicle and drove it to bring it on the road again, running it over Rizwan, who died on the spot.
On being informed of the incident, Rescue 1122 and Sammsatta police teams reached the scene and after completion of legal formalities, shifted the body to the driver’s house at Jhangiwala.
In another incident reported to Rescue 1122, an unidentified man drowned in the river Sutlej near Mauza Rasoolpur of Dhoorekote village in the limits of Uch Sharif police station, about 70kms from here.
On receipt of an emergency call, a team of Rescue 1122 divers arrived at the scene and retrieved the body from the river, handing it over to Uch Sharif police, which shifted it to Ahmedpur East THQ hospital for the postmortem examination.
