BAHAWALPUR: Lodhran Saddar police booked 12 people for their alleged attack on a marriage party and injuring five people, including the bride and the groom, on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in Chak 97, Chamb Mor, where the marriage of Nadia Bibi (19) and Aftab was happening.

According to police, a group of Nadia’s relatives was offended as her father had refused to accept their son’s proposal for her. They attacked the marriage party when it was set to depart along with the bride in revenge. During the attack, the attackers injured five members of the marriage party, damaged dowry and the cars.

On the complaint of Nadia’s mother, Safia, police registered a case in which she nominated Abdul Sattar, Nazir, Usama, Nasim , Irfan, Saddam, Tariq , Shah Ali and four unidentified persons.

ARRESTED: Qureshiwala police in Lodhran district claimed to have arrested a suspect over an attempt to rape a 16-year-old girl at Basti Ghulaman near village Otera.

According to police, they registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s father.

According to the complainant , the suspect on June 8 barged into his house when his daughter was alone. He attempted to rape his daughter and when she raised alarm, the suspect fled away. Police arrested the suspect.

FACT-FINDING: The Board of Revenue (BoR) has sought a fact-finding report from Lodhran Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf on the application of a lawyer.

In his application to the chief secretary, who is grievance redressal commissioner and vice chairperson, Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera), Waseem Qureshi advocate alleged that the DC had illegally demolished Lodhran Stadium’s boundary wall and other immovable encroachments from Khamisa Bhatta Road School No 4 to Khawajaywala Chowk near Masjid Naliwali. The applicant sought the authority to halt the encroachment operation in the area.

The fact-finding report orders (the copy of which is with Dawn) under the subject of redressal grievances were issued by Azmat Suleman, deputy secretary-general assessment of BoR.

APPEAL: A Karachi couple, who had contracted a court marriage, are seeking police protection from their relatives as well as landlords from Sindh.

Holding a press conference in Kahror Pucca of Lodhran district, Nadia Khan and her husband Asad Sheikh told the media that they had tied the knot in a court in Malir (Karachi ) some days back and were living in Kahror Pucca for their safety.

They alleged that they received threats from their relatives and some landlords of Sindh.

They said that they had applied for police protection and submitted an application to Dhanote police.

They appealed to the chief minister to provide them with security.
