KARACHI: A bridegroom and his brother were arrested in Orangi Town after two teenagers were killed in celebratory firing during a marriage ceremony early Saturday morning, police said.

Pakistan Bazaar SHO Meraj Anwar said the bridegroom’s brother, Tariq, conducted heavy firing in jubilation during the marriage ceremony in Sector-14-B near Johar Chowk. As a result, Saifullah, 17, and Anas, 15, sustained critical bullet wounds. Safiullah died on the spot while Anas succumbed to wounds during treatment at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

After receiving information about the incident, the police rushed to the spot, arrested the bridegroom, Tala Wasim, and Tariq, who was involved in the firing.

One 9mm pistol used in the crime was also recovered. The officer said the relatives have told the police that they would get an FIR registered after performing the last rites of the victims.

‘Robber’ shot dead by citizen in Gulshan

A suspected robber was gunned down by a citizen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday, police said.

Aziz Bhatti SHO Anser Ahmed Butt said that Shahid Hussain, a resident of 13-B, Gulshan-Iqbal, was going to his office when he was stopped by two armed persons who snatched his valuables at gunpoint. As they were fleeing, he fired gunshots from his licensed weapon and killed one suspect on the spot while the other ran away.

The robber who was killed had no identification on him. The body was shifted to the hospital.

A bag was recovered from his possession with 3 mobile phones, a 30-bore pistol, and 13 rounds, said the officer.
