SHANGLA: Residents of Chakisar have voiced concern over dilapidated condition of the main road passing through Choka Market, tehsil headquarters of Chakesar, saying years of official neglect coupled with recent rainfall has rendered the route increasingly difficult and dangerous for daily commuters.
According the residents, the road, which serves as a key transportation link for several surrounding areas, has remained in poor condition since long despite repeated requests for repair.
They said the recent rains have further damaged the road surface, creating large potholes and muddy patches that have disrupted traffic flow and increased travel time for motorists and pedestrians alike.
Ziaulhaq, Charaghuddin, Himad Khan, Iqbal Hussain and others complained that patients being transported to healthcare facilities, school-going children, elderly citizens and daily wage earners were among those most affected by the road’s condition. They said commuters are forced to navigate damaged sections of the road every day, causing inconvenience and posing safety risks, particularly during wet weather.
Local shopkeepers in Choka Market said the road’s deteriorating state had also affected business activity, as customers face difficulties reaching the market. They added that transportation costs have increased due to the poor condition of the route, placing an additional burden on residents already struggling with economic challenges.
Several residents expressed frustration over what they described as a lack of attention from the relevant authorities.
They said the road has remained neglected despite its importance to the local population and urged the government to take immediate notice of the issue.
Speaking to this correspondent, residents demanded of the departments concerned to conduct an urgent assessment of the road and allocate funds for its reconstruction and maintenance.
