KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Wednesday extended physical custody of a man in a case pertaining to killing of his wife in Orangi Town.

The case was registered at the Pakistan Bazar police station on the complaint lodged by the state under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code after the victim’s children refused to register the case against their father.

According to the FIR, the suspect — Asghar Ali, 64, — surrendered before the police and stated that he had two sons employed by private companies and two married daughters.

The suspect told the police that he had a dispute with his wife in the early hours of June 4 and, in a fit of anger, he allegedly killed her by hitting her with an iron rod. He then locked the house and surrendered to police.

The police said that after the suspect’s confession, Inspector Ahmed Ali Chandio visited the crime scene, where the victim’s body was found inside the house. The body was later shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

It added that in the presence of witnesses, the suspect was officially arrested and crime weapon was seized and sent for forensic examination.

On Wednesday, the investigating officer of the case brought the suspect before the judicial magistrate (West) and sought further extension in his physical custody for nine days.

The IO also informed the court that he needed to record the suspect’s confessional statement before the magistrate and as well as to interrogate him.

After hearing the IO, the court extended the police custody of the suspect for further six days and directed the IO to produce the suspect along with the progress report at the next hearing.

The court noted that the suspect did not complaint regarding the maltreatment at the hands of the police.

It added that the IO had requested for police custody on the ground of further interrogation to bring true facts on record which appears to be cogent reason for extension in the remand.
