LARKANA: A group of armed clansmen sneaked into a home and opened fire on a sleeping family killing four of them and wounding two others in Sindh Green Colony, located on the outskirts of Larkana, in the early hours of Monday.

Officials at the Mohata police station attributed the attack to an old enmity between families of two cousins, saying that the hostility had begun over murder of a man, Asghar Ali Mugheri, two years ago.

They identified the deceased as Zarina Khatoon, 55, her two sons, Zameer, 36, and Roshan, 22, and their 25-year-old close relative, Saima, who all died on the spot. A 50-year-old man, Bandah Ali, and a three-year-old girl, Kajal, sustained critical wounds in the attack, they said.

All the victims were taken to the Trauma Centre of the Chandka Medical College Hospital.

The assailants fled the area after committing the crime, the police said, adding that a manhunt was underway to apprehend them.

According to the police, the victims and assailants belonged to the Mugheri clan.

Speaking to media personnel, heirs of the deceased victims blamed the attack on Ghulam Nabi Mugheri, said to be an influential figure of the area, and his associates. They demanded immediate arrest of the suspects. Larkana DIG Nasir Aftab Pathan has ordered an investigation into the whole episode and arrest of all those involved in the gory incident.

While an FIR of the incident was yet to be registered, the police said that the murder case of Asghar Mugheri had been lodged against the victims’ side and since then the rival cousins had been maintaining a tense relationship.
