Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al Thani has held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which the two leaders “reviewed efforts aimed at achieving peace and enhancing security and stability in the region”.

Qatar’s foreign ministry said in a statement that PM al Thani expressed Doha’s “full support for the efforts connected to achieving a comprehensive agreement to end the crisis, emphasising the necessity for all parties to respond to these efforts in a manner that contributes to realizing sustainable peace and the desired stability in the region”.

He further stressed that the freedom of navigation was a “firmly established principle that brooks no compromise, and that closing the Strait of Hormuz or using it as a bargaining chip would only deepen the crisis and expose the vital interests of the region’s countries to danger”.

He affirmed the importance of adhering to the rules of international law and the “principles of good neighbourliness, prioritising the interests of the region and its peoples, in a way that contributes to enhancing regional and international security and stability, and supports de-escalation efforts and reducing tensions”.
