BAJAUR: Unidentified gunmen killed an elder in the Inayat Kallay Bazaar here on Sunday, police and traders said.

They said Malik Fazal Wahid, 55, was critically injured and was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar. However, the hospital sources said he succumbed to his injuries during the surgery at the facility’s emergency department.

“Wahid, who belonged to War Mamund tehsil’s Damadola area, had also survived multiple assassination attempts in the past,” according to his family and friends.

They said that the deceased had no enmity with anyone, adding that his elder brother, Malik Abdul Hamid, was also killed in an attack about a decade ago.

No one claimed responsibility for the incident.

Meanwhile, two people were injured after unknown assailants opened fire on a moving vehicle in the Dama Dola area of War Mamund on Saturday. Police and residents said that the pickup vehicle was targeted while en route to Inayat Kallay Bazaar.

Meanwhile, a youth allegedly died by suicide after he hanged himself from the ceiling of his room in Salarzai tehsil on Sunday.

Residents and police said the incident occurred in the Kadook area when Suhail Khan, 18, hanged himself from the ceiling of his room.

Police said the body was taken to the Pashat Hospital for a postmortem.

They said they were investigating the circumstances leading to the incident.
