LAKKI MARWAT: The police foiled a plan of terrorists to attack Wargarey police station in the Bittani subdivision here on Friday.

A police official said that the police sensed the presence of terrorists in the dense forest within the limits of the police station.

“The law enforcers swung into action, reached the area and surrounded the forest,” he said, adding that an operation was launched in the area to capture the terrorists. The official said that an effective strategy and response by the police forced the terrorists to flee the area.

He said timely action by the police thwarted the malicious plan of the terrorists to attack the police station. “We have expanded the sphere of operation to the surrounding area in search of terrorists,” he said.

Separately, a man was shot dead over a family dispute in the Mela Mandrakhel area of the district on Friday. The police said that Ziaur Rehman, his uncle Salim Javed and other relatives were present at a shop in the village when a suspect Naqeebullah armed with a pistol came there and opened fire, killing Salim Javed on the spot.

They said the attacker fled the place while the body was transferred to the Government City Hospital for postmortem examination.

Also in the day, a young man was injured by his uncle over a petty dispute in the Zahidabad area of Serai Naurang town.

Samina Bibi, 48, mother of the injured man, who escaped the attack, told the police that she heard a noise in the street and came out of her house, where her son Sifatullah and brother-in-law Barkatullah were engaged in heated arguments.

She said she tried to take her son into the house and in the meantime, Barkatullah opened fire on them.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
