KARACHI: Four-year-old filly Wonder Woman is tipped to return with flying colours in the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup when it takes place in the winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
With two wins already under her belt, she is on course to complete a hat-trick by getting the better of challenger bay horse Ex Gambler in the top race of the year which will go over 10 furlongs.
Three other horses who are in contention in the race are filly Sincere Approach, bay horse Geo Baba and chestnut colt Mehrab Prince. The race has been classified for three-year-old and above Pakistani horses.
An eight-race card has been dished out for the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup meeting which is going to take place after a year’s gap. The cup race did not take place in the preceding year for want of competition.
Colt Nawab Prince starts as favourite for the 2000 Guineas of Pakistan which will be contested over a mile. He is likely to be chased by another colt Burning Arrow among five starters.
Chestnut horse Mr. Magic is the frontrunner for the X-MAS Cup in the six furlongs contest under scale order I and II.
The Nursery Cup seems to be a two-horse race between chestnut filly Fair Game and colt Casino among half-a-dozen starters.
A sum of Rs4.1 million is at stake including one million for the winner of Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup.
