Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that the situation in Shahdara is “under control” and that the water flow is within safe levels.

“In Shahdara, there is an exceptionally high flood, with water levels having risen from 219,000 to 221,000,” she said on Geo News. “We can be safe at 250,000 cusecs, but if needed, we can breach an embankment.”

The minister added that the large amount of water is expected to pass through the area within several hours.

“Right now, the situation is under control. If the water passes through at its current rate, then we’ll be comfortable,” she explained. “We have had reports of water entering populated areas and homes, but right now, it is not a disaster.”
