LAKKI MARWAT: The joint counter-terrorism operation launched by police, security forces and Counter Terrorism Department commandos against terrorists in the Nurar area of Bannu concluded on Friday.

A police official said that the operation was conducted on credible information about the presence of terrorists in the limits of Miryan police station.

“The security personnel targeted and destroyed the hideouts of terrorists with explosives,” he maintained, adding that six terrorists were killed and three others were arrested in injured condition during the operation.

He said that the law enforcers also captured over two dozen suspects and shifted them to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The official said the police and security forces also destroyed an underground bunker of a terrorist commander, Qari Niaz, which was being used to extort money and forcefully collect essential commodities from the local population.

He said that local residents expressed full confidence in the security forces and police and appreciated their efforts for the establishment of peace.
