LAHORE: A resolution has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Rukhsana Kausar, seeking a ban on the practice of styling beards.

The resolution said that the beard was a Sunnah (tradition) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It said that designing or styling beards in any manner was ‘a grave sin and constituted an insult to the beard and the revered Sunnah’.

The resolution called upon the federal government to enact legislation to impose strict penalties on individuals who get their beards designed, as well as the barbers involved in such practices. It asserted that those who engaged in beard designing ‘mock the Sunnah and commit a sin’.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ms Kausar had submitted a similar resolution in the assembly seeking a ban on styling beards in July 2020.
