KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that baseless propaganda is being spread about the new Ajrak-themed vehicle number plate scheme.
According to a statement issued on Friday, he clarified that the initiative has been launched to modernise the registration process, prevent crime and address issues such as vehicle theft.
“The Sindh government is ready to consider genuine public complaints but will not tolerate politics over measures aimed at public welfare,” he declared.
Commenting on action against illegal construction, he said that the Sindh Building Control Authority had issued notices to 37 “dangerous buildings” in Sukkur alone.
He said that building inspections are also underway in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana and Nawabshah.
He added that departmental and legal action will be taken against officers found involved in illegal construction.
Urges Centre to cooperate on energy projects
Mr Memon, who holds the portfolios of information, transport and mass transit, also demanded that the federal government stop opposing the province’s solar and wind power projects and extend full cooperation to help meet the country’s energy needs.
He said that the provincial government has planned new solar parks for Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana regions.
He said that Sindh has taken significant steps in the alternative energy sector and its wind corridor is operational and several solar energy projects are nearing completion.
The minister stated that Sindh possesses ample resources to help pull the country out of its energy crisis. However, the province’s energy sector development is being severely hampered by the policies of the federal government.
He said that the time has come for stakeholders, experts and policymakers to engage in an open discussion on the province’s vast energy reserves and sustainable energy solutions.
He said that the water level in the Indus River is continuously rising, with reports of low-level flood at Guddu and Sukkur barrages.
He added that the Sindh irrigation department and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority are closely monitoring all barrages, embankments, and sensitive areas.
