RAWALPINDI: The Attorney-General, Mr Yahya Bakhtiar, today [June 20] submitted before the Supreme Court that the real purpose of the defunct National Awami Party was to destroy the concept on the basis of which Pakistan was created. Resuming his overnight opening address in the Government reference on dissolution of NAP, the Attorney-General quoted from the written statement filed in the Court by Jam Saqi, Joint Secretary and member, Central Committee of the defunct Party, to prove his contention.

In his written statement, Jam Saqi had said that NAP has its own ideology …. Pakistan is a State, but not one nation, it is a multi-national State. The NAP is committed on this issue. … As regards my personal stand, I affirm that my nationality (in the political and not legal sense) is Sindhi. But for the consideration of the … Court, I would merely state the facts that I am a Sindhi for the last 5,000 years, a Muslim for the last 500 years and a Pakistani for the last 28 years, and leave it to the honourable Court itself to make deductions. The Attorney-General said these views were also shared by the defunct Party chief, Mr Abdul Wali Khan.
