LAHORE: The convocation of the Ameer-ud-Din Medical College was held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Tuesday awarded degrees to 200 graduating doctors and 141 medals to the high achievers.

The 5th convocation of the college was attended by Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH) Principal Prof Dr Farooq Afzal, Punjab Health adviser Dr Azhar Mehmood Kiyani, former Punjab health minister Prof Javed Akram, retired PGMI principal Prof Sardar Al-Fareed Zafar, King Edward Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayaz, Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences Executive Director Prof Asif Bashir and many other senior medical professionals.

Addressing the occasion, Dr Azhar Mehmood Kiyani emphasized that the Punjab government was fully committed to the promotion of medical education and ensuring provision of state-of-the-art healthcare services.

Prof Farooq Afzal called on the Punjab government to address key infrastructural needs, including a dedicated building for Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, student hostels, a parking plaza at the LGH and the construction of a multi-storey building to improve outpatient services. He also urged that the PGMI be granted the university status to enable an enhanced environment for specialisation and advanced medical training.

Prof Javed Akram lauded the Punjab government for its revolutionary initiatives in the health sector, including the health card scheme, establishment of new medical colleges and hospitals and provision of free healthcare services all of which are directly benefiting the public.

Prof. Dr Al-Fareed Zafar acknowledged the vital contributions of the PGMI and the medical college in producing a large number of dedicated doctors serving humanity both nationally and internationally.
