Former envoy Maleeha Lodhi has said that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was in trouble yesterday but was ultimately secured after US intervention.
Speaking to Geo News, she said that the “ceasefire was in trouble yesterday, but again due to American intervention, phone calls were made late at night”, which resulted in the ceasefire staying intact.
Speaking on the United States’ future involvement in the matter, she remarked that it depended “on the interest expressed by both India and Pakistan”, adding that if India does not show interest, then the US’s interest might wane as well.
Noting that this is the first time in history that two nuclear nations have carried out strikes against each other, she said, “The confrontation brought us closer to a very dangerous edge, and to avert that danger, the US had to get involved.”
