LAHORE: Two security guards of the Punjab University were injured following an alleged attack by Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba (IJT) on Saturday.
According to a PU spokesperson, IJT’s activists were stopped at the main gate of the university and were asked for their identification during checking.
He said IJT activists Zain Sarfraz, Ghazanfar Ali, Muhammad Anis, Shamrez Mumtaz, Zain Shaukat, Samiullah, Usman Ahmed and Hammad Raza attacked the guards.
He said the security guards had asked IJT’s trustee Zohaib Fakhri and Nazim Hammad Raza for their identification at the gate.
He said most of the IJT activists involved in the attack were expelled over different disciplinary actions by the administration.
The spokesperson said in the future, if any expelled IJT worker is seen, he will be referred to the police.
He said strict checking would continue as usual at the university gates.
However, IJT activists denied any clash with the security guards and said that they did not have anything to do with it.
An IJT spokesperson said the three out of 14 gates of the university were opened for entry and exit of the students and the closure of the gates was creating problems.
He said the administration was leveling false allegations against the IJT and demanded proper investigation into the incident.
Earlier, a Chinese delegation visited the Department of History and Pakistan Studies.
On this occasion, Dean Faculty of Arts & Humanities Prof Dr Mahboob Hussain welcomed the guests and gave a comprehensive introduction to the department, its academic programmes and esteemed faculty.
The discussions focused on academic collaboration, cultural exchange and future partnerships between the department and the Chinese universities.
Dr Mahboob said the visit marks a positive step towards strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation in the field of historical and regional studies.
He said the department of history looks forward to meaningful academic ties and shared learning experiences in the future.
