LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the authorities concerned to ensure implementation of minimum wage across the province.

The direction came during a meeting which was attended by Labour Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar and others.

The chief minister said that as the government had earlier set Rs37,000 as minimum monthly wage for workers, it should be implemented across Punjab at all costs.

She also sought a plan to build labour colonies in the province and directed for revamping of all social security hospitals, while setting up Wellness Centres for pre-scanning in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad before referring the patients to major hospitals.

The meeting decided to build a 200-bed Rehmatul Alameen Cardiology Centre on Defence Road in the provincial capital. It also approved a 50-bed social security hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.

The chief minister also directed amendments to the labour laws for the welfare of workers and to make Punjab an exemplary province in this regard.

She said that the government is responsible for providing wages, medical treatment, better employment and shelter to the workers.
