SUKKUR: A large number of villagers blocked roads in Tangwani town, Kandhkot-Kashmore district, and in Sindhri town, Mirpurkhas district, on Wednesday in protest against police failure to rein in criminals and control street crime.
Members of Khoso clan staged a sit-in in the middle of Kandhkot-Thull road at Manjhy Stop to protest against abduction of a man and his nephew in Tangwani town and police failure to recover them.
They said that Gul Hassan and his nephew Morzado Khoso were asleep at their farmland in Mohammad Hayat Khoso village last night when unknown armed men abducted them and disappeared into riverine area.
They said that they called the area police and went after the kidnappers but could not rescue their men. No one was safe as criminals walked around the area armed with weapons without fear of police, they said.
They said that they had repeatedly complained to police against dacoits but no one listened to them, hence they appealed to high authorities to direct police concerned to get their men recovered and arrest the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, SHO Maula Bakhsh Bugti along with his team held talks with the protesters and persuaded them to open the road for traffic. He sought three days to recover the hostages from the captivity of gangsters.
In Mirpurkhas, scores of villagers staged a sit-in on Samaro-Sindhri road on Wednesday in protest against growing lawlessness and police failure to control rising street crime in the town.
The enraged protesters told reporters that SHO of Sindhri had failed to control growing crime as robberies had become a routine and armed outlaws were openly roaming the streets.
They said that they had warned police several times but they did not take action against the culprits.
Later, Sindhri SHO persuaded the protesters with the help of a tribal elder to lift the blockade and restore traffic on the road.
Hindu Panchayat meets DIG
The leaders of Hindu Panchayat from Larkana and Shikarpur met DIG of Larkana range on Wednesday and drew his attention to rising street crime and robberies in Larkana and incidents of kidnapping for ransom in Kashmore and Kandhkot.
The DIG assured the delegation that noose around the criminals was being tightened and the abducted Rajesh Kumar would be safely be recovered soon.
