KARACHI: Jockey Sohail Ahmed grew in stature by winning Champion Rider of the Year award at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The 40-year old Sohail credited himself with 25 victories in the year that has recently ended. Similarly, trainer Nazir annexed the Champion Trainer of the Year award by partnering 34 winners.

The Champion Owner of the Year award went to Ather Abbas with 17 victories to his credit. Thunder Man, owned by Ather Abbas, was declared Champion Horse of the Year for his six triumphs in a row.

Though two other horses — Trevor and Faisal King — had also won six races apiece but their victories were not in a row. It is pertinent to mention that the rider, trainer and owner have won their maiden awards.

The awards were distributed at a ceremony held in the paddock at the culmination of regular races.
