DADU: Two jirgas held in Dadu and Shikarpur imposed a staggering amount of over Rs28 million on warring groups to end their blood feud, which had claimed a total of nine lives in clashes over a couple of years.

A jirga held in Circuit House on Monday imposed fine of Rs12 million on warring groups of Chandio and Brahmani clans to end their longstanding blood feud, which had claim-ed lives of five people in clashes over two and a half years.

Tribal chieftains Mohammad Khan Junejo, Rafiq Ahmed Jamali, Sardar Hakeem Khan Noohani, Moazim Khan Abbasi and Burhan Khan Chandio who took part in behind the scenes efforts to bring about the reconciliation between the groups held the jirga.

The jirga passed its verdict after hearing the two sides and imposed a total fine Rs12m. It found Chandio community guilty of killing three Brahmani men and slapped Rs9m fine on it, while Brahmani community was found guilty of killing two Chandio man, hence a fine of Rs3m was imposed on it.

The two groups accepted the jirga verdict and their leaders embraced each other in a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, followed by distribution of sugared milk sherbet to signify resolution of disputes between the two groups.

The verdict advised Brahmani leader Sardar Nisar Ahmed Brahmani, who had used offensive language against Chandio’s chief Rafiq Ahmed Jamali during the strife, to seek forgiveness from Jamali before a gathering to be hosted by him.

Jamali said the verdict marked a significant step in promoting peace in the region, highlighting the power of mediation in resolving deep-rooted conflicts.

Rs16m fine slapped to end dispute

A jirga held in Lakhi Ghulam Shah, Shikarpur district, on Sunday evening, imposed Rs16.2 million fine on rival groups of Siyal and Sheikh clans based

in Gambat town, Khairpur district, to settle their dispute, which had claimed four lives and left 11 wounded during clashes.

Mahar chieftain Ghous Bakhsh Mahar chaired the jirga at his residence in Wazirabad. Elders of the two sides, Tariq Anwar Siyal, Moazam Abbas and MPA Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh also took part in the proceeding of the jirga.

The jirga heard arguments of the two sides and their counsels and imposed Rs16.2m fine on both the groups for the murder of four men and injuries to 11 others.

The jirga imposed Rs12.4m and Rs75,000 fine on Siyal group for killing three Shaikh men and wounding six others, and slapped Rs3.8m fine on Shaikh group for killing a Siyal man and wounding five others.
