KHYBER/SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Eight people were killed in incidents of roof collapse in Khyber and Upper South Waziristan districts on Sunday.

Five people lost their lives and three were injured when roof of a house collapsed in Bazaar-Zakhakhel area of Landi Kotal on Saturday night.

Police said that the roof of Amin Khan’s house in Alacha village collapsed after a newly-constructed boundary wall fell, killing Amin, his son Sar Taj, his wife Gulwara, Sanam Bibi and a minor girl, Shazia.

In Upper South Waziristan, three members of a family were killed when roof of a room in their house collapsed in Dam Kachkai village of Sararogha tehsil in the wee hours on Sunday due to heavy rain.

The owner of the house, identified as EPI technician Dr Irfan Mehsud, his 11-year-old son and a daughter, were buried alive under the rubble while asleep.

Deputy commissioner Saleem Jan confirmed the incident, saying a rescue team was sent to the area to provide assistance to the victims’ family.

The villagers retrieved three bodies from the debris. They alleged that no official from the district administration came to help the family.
