ISLAMABAD, April 12: The body parts of suspected suicide bomber of the Nishtar Park incident will be brought to the DNA laboratory in the federal capital for identification, Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah told Dawn on Wednesday.

The official said investigation agencies had taken into custody three unidentified bodies, a head and some other human organs from the site of the bomb blast in Karachi.

He said it had been confirmed that it was a suicide bombing.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and the secretary went to Karachi in the evening to get information about the investigation.

The laboratory was established last month by the National Police Bureau with the assistance of China.

A police official said it would be the first test of its kind in the country since the setting up of the laboratory.

“The DNA results of the suspect’s body parts are compared with the DNA of blood relations,” the official said.

He said the test did not take much time but gathering other information about the suspect and the process to match the results with the DNAs of his relatives might take months.

The official said the bureau was preparing a database of criminals and terrorists which would help identify suspects.

INQUIRY: Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao said the government had formed two inquiry committees, including one headed by a high court judge. He said preliminary investigation revealed that it was a suicide attack.
