Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, has thanked her for putting faith in him.

“Campaigning at your side was the honour and privilege of my life,” Walz said on X, which CNN says is his first statement since Harris lost the presidential election to Donald Trump.

“While the outcome is not what we wanted, I am grateful to the millions of Americans who joined our campaign and stood up for our greatest ideals: decency, compassion, and love of our neighbour,” the Democrat said.

He urged his supporters to continue fighting “for those values and the country we all love”.
