IRRELEVANT FOR PAKISTAN: The presidential elections in the United States and its implications are discussed throughout the world. Regardless of the result, it is certain that the outcome will not change the White House, especially with regard to the Muslim world. And we, the Pakistanis, are no exception. Financial and military support to Israel will continue as both Democrats and Republicans have the same point of view in the matter; support Israel, suppress Palestinians. Both have the same view about the current world order, and both are eager to maintain the unipolar world. China remains their obvious economic challenge. Therefore, the whole election process is merely about a change of face.

RESPECT FOR THE FLAG: The national flag is a symbol of pride and honour for any nation, and respect for the national flag is considered the resp-onsibility of all citizens. However, this does not seem to be the case in Pakistan. We see various Pakistan-made products in the market, and some of them have Pakistani emblems on their packaging, which eventually end up in trash bins. This commercial misuse of the flag is to target sales by benefiting from people’s patriotic sentiments. Product packagings can have lines with a colour similar to the national flag for identifying their products as Pakistani. The national flag should be accorded the respect and reverence it deserves from one and all.

TARGETING PEACE: After a teasing wait, Israel struck Iran recently, with a barrage of missiles attacking specific military targets. In fact, this was in reply to Iran’s similar attack on Oct 1. Will these tit-for-tat actions do any good to Gaza, where well over 40,000 people have lost their lives owing to Zionist Israel’s brutality, and the media has continued to display these figures like a scoreboard on a daily basis? Iran and Israel should now realise that war is not the answer. They need to give peace a fair chance.
