MUZAFFARGARH: Kot Addu Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Amanullah sentenced a man to 14-year jail term for throwing acid on a woman.

Muhammad Sharif, son of Karim Bakhsh, in connivance with his accomplices had attacked a woman with acid and burnt her in 2023.

City Police Station of Kot Addu had registered a case against him.

The convict will have to pay a fine of Rs1m also.

PROTEST: Members of the Punjab Teachers Union closed the school gates for the deputy district education officer (DEO) female of Chobara tehsil who allegedly insulted a primary schoolteacher (PST) through a voice message.

The teachers warned other senior officials also would not be allowed to enter schools for inspection until the removal of Deputy DEO Fatima Aziz.

Punjab Teachers Union leader for Chobara tehsil in Layyah, Mian Muhammad Shafiq, asked the education department officers not to visit any school as they won’t be allowed entry.

Ms Aziz’ conversation with Rehmana Akhtar, a PST at the Government Girls Primary School, Chak 498-TDA, has been posted on internet where she is heard insulting the degree and post of the teacher.

When the audio went viral, the teachers union and others PST teachers protested against the DEO. She went to the house of Ms Akhtar to seek an apology but the teacher refused to accept her apology.
