BAHAWALPUR: There were three rape and attempted rape incidents within 24 hours in Lodhran, Vehari and Khanewal districts.

According to the Lodhran police spokesperson on Monday, a man allegedly raped a married woman at gunpoint in Jamshed Basti of village Burhanpur in the limits of Saddar Police Station of Kahrore Pucca.

The woman was cutting fodder in the fields when the suspect forcibly took her to a maize field and raped her. On the victim’s complaint, police registered a case and arrested the suspect.

In the second incident, a man raped her minor cousin in the Police Station Chamb Kalan area of Khanewal district. On receipt of the call, the Rescue 1122 shifted the nine-year-old girl to hospital. Police registered a rape case against the suspect on the complaint of the girl’s father.

DPO Ismail Kharak took notice of the incident while SHO Abdul Rehman Gull claimed to have arrested the suspect within five hours of the incident.

At Chak 211/WB of Vehari in the limits of Mitroo Police Station of tehsil Mailsi, a shopkeeper attempted to rape a nine-year-old girl who came to his shop to buy candies. When the girl screamed, her brother and others reached the shop to save her. On seeing them, the suspect fled. Mitroo police registered a case.

FIA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) busted a gang involved in Hundi and foreign currency exchange business on the College Road of Burewala. It arrested three members of the gang, identified as Hassan Adeel, Shehbaz Aslam and Khurram Mukhtar.

The agency seized a sum of Rs 2.4m besides 10,020 Saudi Riyals, 5,170 Dirhams, 550 Australian Dollars, 520 Euros, 350 Pounds, 301 Omani Riyals and 1,000 Malaysian Ringgits.

RESCUED: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bahawalpur Rai Babar Saeed claims to have saved and rescued 206 citizens from the Katcha robbers by the anti-honey trap cell in the division during the last six months.

The RPO also claimed to have busted 69 robbers’ gangs, arresting their 223 members in three districts during the said period. He said motorcycles and valuables worth about Rs470m were recovered from these gangs and most of the complainants/owners were returned their stolen properties. He said 1,677 drug traffickers were arrested, 1,661 cases were registered against them and 14 maund charas and 10kg ice were also seized from their possession.

SUICIDE: A man died by suicide at his home in Bahawalpur on Monday.

AbuBakar hanged himself with an iron girder at his home near the municipal corporation office.

According to Kotwali police, the deceased had a dispute with his ex-wife a day before and ended his life.
