LAKKI MARWAT: Under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister’s public service agenda, a massive cleanliness drive was launched in Bannu on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hameed Khan inaugurated the drive, which will continue for a week under the auspices of water and sanitation services company (WSSC).
The deputy commissioner said on the occasion that provincial government was paying special attention to clean and green programme to provide a healthy environment to people.
Along with Bannu city and adjoining areas, the local administration with the help of civic agency also carried out cleanliness activities in major hospitals, he said. He added that locals were being sensitised about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene conditions.
“The administration has also launched a campaign to motivate people, especially youth, to take part in cleanliness and keep their houses, streets and surroundings clean and pollution-free,” said the deputy commissioner.
He said that the WSSC staffers would work day and night to dispose of garbage dumps and clean clogged drains. He called upon people to cooperate with administration and civic body to make Bannu a model and beautiful city.
Also in the day, the deputy commissioner chaired a meeting to discuss matters pertaining to damage caused by landslide in Ahmadzai Wazir subdivision of Bannu district.
District development advisory committee chairman MPA Zahidullah Khan Wazir, relevant government officials and elders including Malik Bakhtullah Gungikhel, Sohail Khan, Sifatullah, Malik Hafeezullah Khan and Saqib Munir attended the meeting.
Elders informed the meeting that landslide triggered by heavy rain damaged road infrastructure in the area and caused troubles to transporters and commuters. They asked authorities to start repair and rehabilitation work on a war footing basis.
The deputy commissioner and the MPA directed the relevant officials to clear the road of debris and launch repair work without any delay. They asked officials to restore communication between Ahmadzai Wazir subdivision and other parts of the district through a road network.
