BRAVE SOLDIERS: This is with reference to the report ‘Ten army men martyred in south KP attacks’ (July 17). The army keeps losing its men and officers in the line of duty, with news of martyrdom of security personnel in the fight against terrorism making headlines every other day. The soldiers spend days and nights protecting the geographical frontiers and sovereignty of the country for which we, the countrymen, should be grateful.

POWER CORRUPTS: Bangladesh is in turmoil yet again. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, they say, and the saying has been proven right more than once in South Asian countries. The momentum generated in Bangladesh may transform into some kind of ‘Asian Arab Spring’ and may engulf other countries in the region. Let us keep our fingers crossed, and hope for something better to emerge from the current crisis.

RAIN DAMAGE: Houses, crops as well as other infrastructure have been destroyed by rains in Wassayo Jamali village. Our belongings, cherished me- mories and hopes have been washed away, and we are left with nothing but despair and the wreckage of our shattered lives. The government should establish a proper drainage system in the area. This will not only prevent destruction and displacement, but also help improve our overall quality of life.

ILLOGICAL DECISION: Another episode to burden the people after the anti-people budget is the recent decision taken by the Sindh government to impose Municipal Utility Charges and Taxes (MUCT) in Karachi effective Aug 1, which will be charged in the monthly bills of K-Electric (KE). I see no logic in this misadventure at a time when there is so much outrage over skyrocketing electricity bills across the country. Is it not like killing someone who is already dead?
