THIS is with reference to the report “PTI refutes Marwat’s claim linking Saudi Arabia with ‘regime change’” (April 18). The controversial statement of the main opposition party’s spokesperson about Saudi Arabia reverberated over main- stream and social media for a good couple of days. More of concern was the timing of the statement that had come while a high-profile Saudi delegation was visiting Pakistan with promises of investment in various projects across Pakistan.

The government and the people equated the statement with the postponement of the Chinese president’s scheduled visit to Islamabad in 2014 due to the sit-in that was being held by the same party in Islamabad.

In fact, the said party is in a bit of a higgledy-piggledy as it has too many leaders and each one is trying to pose as being close to its imprisoned leader and claims to be his real spokesperson. This can also be seen in their public meetings and press conferences where snatching of the microphone is not rare.

No doubt the party is facing hard times, but there is something called discipline that the party must practise in order to survive. Its leaders can at least show some maturity for the sake of instilling etiquettes in our young generation.
