ISLAMABAD: A man arrested in a theft case died in police custody under unexplained circumstances, police said.
Talking to Dawn, a police officer said that the accused was arrested by Tarnol police in connection with theft of a battery. During ‘interrogation’ his condition started deteriorating and later he fell unconscious, he added.
However, the interrogators thought the suspect was pretending and continued the “interrogation” but found no response from him, the officer
said, adding that later the matter was brought into the knowledge of the senior officers concerned too and they asked to wait for his regaining consciousness.
After sometime, when the staff of the police station sensed that the situation was getting serious took him to hospital where he died, he added.
The police claimed that the accused detained in the lockups, died under mysterious circumstances.
The police also claimed that during interrogation, he made an attempt to escape from police custody and in this regard reached the rooftop of the police station from where he jumped and sustained injuries.
Later he was shifted to hospital where he died during treatment, they added.
Despite repeated attempts, the public relation officer of the police could not be reached.
Meanwhile, criminals shot and injured a man during a robbery in capital, police said on Tuesday.
The injured was identified as Ahmad Hassan, a BS Public Administration student at QAU, they said, adding that he sustained a bullet injury in his left leg, fired by a gunman during a robbery.
Three riders of intercepted him in the university when he was going to a bank from a hostel block, they said, adding that the riders held him up at gunpoint and looted Samsung A02S.
In the meantime one of the robber fired at his leg and as a result he fell on road, while the all three robbers escaped from the spot, they added.
Secretariat police registered a case against the robbers under section 394 of PPC in response of the complaint lodged by the victim, they said, adding that according to the complainant the gunmen were in their early 20s.
