BAHAWALNAGAR: Four people were booked for throwing acid on a labourer in a matrimonial dispute in the Khichiwala area on Sunday, the police said.

The FIR registered with Faqirwali police stated that Muhammad Ashraf of Ghalla Colony, Khichiwala, was returning home from Chak 72/4R to Ghalla Colony, Khichiwala, on a motorcycle on April 27. Near 125/6R canal, four people riding a motorcycle signaled him to stop while two of them threw acid on him and fled.

Police sources stated that Ashraf was rushed to the Haroonabad THQ hospital, where his condition was deemed out of danger. They added that it was a matrimonial dispute and an investigation was ongoing.

SUSPENDED: The Haroonabad City station house officer (SHO), along with a sub-inspector, was suspended in a case of police torture involving a mentally challenged person, in which an FIR was registered against six cops on April 23.

A case was registered against six police officials, including sub-inspector Muhammad Umar of City Haroonabad police, on April 23 for torturing mentally challenged Junaid of Basti Roda Singh after his family approached the DPO in an open court.

On Saturday evening, the victim’s family again blocked the road when a local court ordered the dismissal of the case against the police officials. Upon receiving the information, the DPO visited the site and met the family. On the DPO’s instruction, SHO Shahid and SI Abbas were suspended from service, and an inquiry was initiated against them, sources said.
