LAHORE: No decision has so far been taken with regard to reopening of the revamped Lahore Zoo on Eidul Fitar, sources in the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department told Dawn.

As per the sources, though the decision is pending, a partial reopening of the zoo may be considered on Eid.

They say that a few projects, including that of hologram, are going on in the zoo which may be completed in April. They add that some of the improved enclosures of animals are also being completed.

PWPD director general also affirmed that the decision with regard to reopening the zoo on Eid was yet to taken.

The department’s failure to reopen the revamped zoo will result in massive financial loss as during the Eid holidays the zoo earns a considerable income from tickets sale and other heads.

The Lahore Zoo was closed on Nov 7, 2023 for execution of a revamp and uplift project. Under the projects many facilities and new animals will also be introduced at the zoo, besides carrying out civil works.

Under the project, the parking area of the zoo has been extended and an app-based computerised parking system will be introduced.

Moreover, glass enclosures for leopards, lions and tigers are being built so that people could watch these animals closely.

A modern food court will also be part of the revamped facility, besides improved enclosures for hippos, rhinos, giraffes and bears.

The monkey house is also being redesigned, while many new animals are being brought to the zoo.
