GUJRANWALA/TOBA TEK SINGH: A young man and a boy were seriously injured in separate incidents related to kite flying on Monday.

In the first incident, a 12-year-old boy suffered severe burns allegedly when the metal string he was using to fly a kite touched live electric wires in Arup police station limits. However, the police claim the boy suffered electric shock when he inadvertently touched an electric wire while playing cricket.

Rescue 1122 officials said quoting eyewitnesses that Sameer (12) was flying a kite on the roof of his house in Batranwali area of Arup when the string touched an 11Kv wire, resulting in a bang. As a result, the boy suffered a electric shock, causing severe burns to him. He was shifted to hospital in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, police have released a statement of the boy’s uncle who confirmed the police’s stance.

The DPO ordered the arrest of about 70 kite-flyers in different police stations’ limits after recovery of hundreds of kites and string spools from them.

In the second incident, a young motorcyclist suffered serious injuries when the metal string of a stray kite entangled in his neck in Samundri.

Police sources say Ijaz Ahmad (22) was on his bike on Qasim Road near Fesco Complex, when the accident occurred. He was admitted to Samundri THQ hospital.

Faisalabad CPO retired Capt Ali Zia has suspended Samundri City SHO from service for his failure to check kite flying.
