SHANGLA: The Alpuri tehsil council on Monday demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to extend the tenure of local bodies for two years and announce relief package for the rain-hit people of Shangla.
The demands were made during a session chaired by the council’s convener Mohammad Alam.
Tehsil council chairman Waqar Ahmad Khan and members, including Jehan Rokhan, Mohammad Javid, Noor Alam, Badar Munir, Muzamil Khan, Gul Mohammad, Shahid Ali, Anwarul Mulk, Sardar Ali, Nasibur Rehman, Saidullah Khan and Ali Bhash spoke on the occasion. The members highlighted the issues their respective village councils were facing. They demanded of the government to announce a relief package for the people affected by the recent rain spell.
They demanded allocation of funds for the local bodies and their empowerment.
The councillors asked the non-government organisations to obtain no-objection certificate from the council chairman before launching development projects in the district.
They condemned the alleged mistreatment meted out to the tehsil chairman by the police and said they wouldn’t compromise on the councillors’ dignity and honour.
On the occasion, tehsil chairman Waqar Ahmad extended his sympathies with the rain-hit families and directed the authorities concerned to immediately start rehabilitation work in the affected areas and clear the link roads.
He also rejected the revenue officials’ survey carried out in the rain-hit union councils, claiming the revenue officials included their ‘favourites’ in the list for payment of compensation. He called for a fresh survey.
PRICE MONITORING DESK: The Bisham tehsil administration has established price monitoring desks for registration of complaints against profiteers and hoarders.
Assistant commissioner Mohammad Adnan set up the desks in Bisham Bazaar to check the prices of food items during Ramazan, and urged the people to lodge their complaints with the desks regarding hoarding and profiteering.
