Palestinian lawyer appeals for end to ‘ongoing genocide’

Bahjat al-Helo, a lawyer from the Palestinian independent human rights centre, tells Al Jazeera that Israel’s war against civilians in the Gaza Strip must stop.

“I’m going to repeat what all the world knows: we are living in the darkest moments of our lives as Palestinians,” al-Helo said, speaking from the southern city of Rafah.

“This is an ongoing genocide against Palestinians,” he continued. “We are more than two million people caged and displaced. There is death and killing on a daily basis by the reckless air strikes of the Israelis on the civilians and displaced civilians in the Gaza Strip.”

He decried the silence of the world, accusing them of watching Israel’s impunity in committing war crimes and failing to take a single step to hold them accountable.
