KARACHI: Prime Minister Z.A. Bhutto yesterday [Jan 2] exhorted people to fight poverty with renewed determination and reassured them that his Government was “… committed to the eradication of poverty and social injustice from the country”. Inaugurating KMC Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in Nazimabad, the Prime Minister said the sole objective of his Government was to better the lot of the common man. …

Discussing inadequate medical facilities … the Prime Minister said it was the People’s Government which first pledged to make medical aid available to the common man free of cost. … Prime Minister Bhutto pointed out that hospitals, dispensaries and maternity homes were being constructed even in the remotest parts of the interior. He expressed satisfaction over the ultra-modern facilities provided at the hospital, designed to benefit workers, peasants, labourers and office clerks irrespective of their financial limitations.

[Meanwhile,] the Government of Sind has, with immediate effect, prohibited the publication of the daily “The Star”, Karachi, for … two months. This action has been taken for preventing and combating activities prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
