ISLAMABAD: The second meeting of the rule-making committee constituted to review the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) Rules 2010 has decided to incorporate the suggestions and recommendations received from the co-opted members.

Presided over by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, the meeting on Friday also considered seeking input from Justice Aalia Neelum of the Lahore High Court, whose name was inadvertently not mentioned in the list of co-opted members.

At the last meeting on Dec 16, the committee had decided to co-opt 17 female members of the district judiciary as well as a public sector governance expert and assigned them the task of furnishing proposals and recommendations for amending rules of procedure for the commission in making appointment of judges to the superior judiciary.

The co-opted members are Justice Ayesha A. Malik, Justice Musarrat Hilali, Justice Kausar Sultana Hussain of the Sindh High Court, Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz of the Islamabad High Court,

retired Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar, former chief justice of the Balochistan High Court; retired district and sessions judge (D&SJ) from Punjab Mahrukh Aziz, retired D&SJ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hayat Ali Shah, retired D&SJ Sindh Imdad Hussain

Khoso, retired D&SJ Balochistan Rashid Mehmood, Advocate Supreme Court Hina Jilani, Legal Adviser International Commission of Jurists Reema Omer and public sector governance expert Rafiullah Kakar.

The committee deliberated upon the second revised draft of the proposed rules and approved the same with a few amendments.

The approved draft rules will be placed before the Judicial Commission of Pakistan in its next meeting for finalisation.
