TOBA TEK SINGH: A man who had gone “missing” five days back, was actually strangled by his wife who buried his body in the courtyard of their house at Chak Hussainpur, Aarywala, of Mianchannu tehsil, Khanewal district.

According to Tulamba police, Sajjad Ali’s wife got registered a case of her husband’s kidnap.

However, the police got suspicious when the complainant, Shehnaz Akhtar, kept changing her statement during investigation.

On being grilled by the police, the suspect confessed to have strangled her husband after giving him sedatives.

Body recovered from the courtyard of house

The woman, the police say, then buried the body in the courtyard of her house.

The couple had five children, the police added.

On the identification by the suspect, the police recovered Sajjad’s body and shifted it toTulamba Rural Health Centre for autopsy.

MURDERED: A young man was murdered on Sunday allegedly by his relative at Chah Wassoana village in Jhang district.

As per locals, Mehr Shahid Lakhnana,of Kot Laknana locality of Jhang, was passing through a street when, Mehr Saqlain Lakhnana, one of his relatives, shot at him, leaving him critically injured.

He died while being shifted to the local district headquarters hospital.

The police say the victim had exchanged harsh words with the suspect a day ago.

MAP RALLY: Minorities Alliance Pakistan (MAP) took out a rally in Faisalabad on International Human Rights Day on Sunday.

Addressing the rally at the District Council Chowk, MAP chairman Akmal Bhatti said that provision of fundamental rights of the citizens is the constitutional responsibility of the government.

He said MAP has rejected the existing electoral system terming it discriminatory against minorities and the women.

He said the right to vote on minority seats is our constitutional right, but a few people who claim to be leaders of minorities have usurped it, undermining democracy.

He demanded increase in reserved seats for minorities, and their right to cast double vote, on general seats as well as reserved seats.

He demanded that all political parties should be given an equal opportunity to run their election campaigns.

He also demanded that those involved in the ransacking churches and houses in Jaranwala tragedy should be brought to justice, saying that many suspects are still at large.

Meanwhile, a rally was organised by Beti Bachao Tehreek (Save Daughter Movement) in Faisalabad, led by Naeem Yaqub Gill, Babar Saroya, Atif Jameel Pagan, Dilshad Hameed, Madam Shaheen Anthony, Shabana Bashir and Shahid Mahmood.

While addressing the participants, speakers expressed concern over incidents of forced conversion and marriages of minor girls belonging to religious minorities.

They said such incidents are causing insecurity among minorities, demanding the government to enact effective laws to punish the culprits.
